Artist Talk:

Carmen Winant

FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

Friday, March 3, 6 pm

25 West 4th Street
Dayton, OH.  45402

Join The Contemporary Dayton as we present a “performative artist talk” by Carmen Winant in conjunction with her exhibition The neighbor, the friend, the lover.

The presentation will address Winant’s ongoing practice of gathering images culled from the history of photography so that they can be entered into specific indexes determined by the nature and context of various projects. The images Winant culls into her works examine feminist modes of survival and revolt, while also questioning the very nature of photography; what it is now and toward what it might be evolving.

The presentation will include a wide range of images combined with Winant’s observations and ideas, coalesced into a visual and lexical whole.

Carmen Winant is the Roy Lichtenstein Endowed Chair of Studio Art at Ohio State University and a 2019 Guggenheim Fellow in photography. Her publications include My Birth, published concurrently with her break-through work of the same name in MoMA’s Being: New Photography 2018 and A Brand New End: Survival and Its Pictures published in conjunction with her 2022 exhibition at The Print Center, Philadelphia, and available in The Co Shop.
