The Contemporary Dayton reassess finances, longtime executive director departs

The Contemporary Dayton, a downtown art gallery located inside the historic Dayton Arcade and commonly known as The Co, has implemented a new plan for financial sustainability as well as a search for a new executive director.

Working in partnership with leadership from The Co board of trustees and community partners, longtime Executive Director Eva Buttacavoli recently negotiated a new strategic partnership that will reduce organizational expenses by approximately $500,000 over the next five years. According to organizers, this agreement addresses one of the organization’s largest operating expenses, strengthening its financial foundation while allowing greater investment in artists, exhibitions, public programs and community engagement.

Overview: The Contemporary Dayton (The Co) is the region’s contemporary art center. Established in 1991 as Dayton Visual Arts Center (DVAC), a 501c3, The Co produces and presents original exhibitions and programs, art events, community partnerships, and artist opportunities.
